Since 1992 – Now in Its Fourth Generation
Eva Donath, the founder’s great-granddaughter, took over the business in 1992. Together with her sister Anja Fritzsche, she has been running the company ever since: certified, modern, and with the same high standards as in 1909
Springs That Are Easy to Maintain
-

1990: Return to family ownership
With courage and entrepreneurial spirit, Siegfried Weigel fought to achieve reprivatization. On May 1, 1990, the Alfred Weigel KG Spring Factory returned to family ownership.
-

1972–1989: Forced Nationalization & Perseverance
Following a series of restrictive measures since 1959, the company was forcibly nationalized in 1972 and renamed VEB Feinfedern Karl-Marx-Stadt. Despite bureaucracy and constant material shortages, the quality of production remained high.
-

1946–1959: Reconstruction
After the main plant was destroyed during the war, the Weigel team improvised using everyday items, among other things, and expanded production by 1959 to 200 employees, 8 production areas, and over 1.5 million marks in revenue. In 1954, Siegfried Weigel joined the company.
-

1930–1945: Civil Courage in Difficult Times
The company, with 500 employees, was classified as essential to the war effort. The company owners, Kurt and Rudolf Weigel, used their personal courage and moral fortitude to protect their employees from the worst. This legacy lives on in the company’s culture to this day.
-

1925: Growth & the Great Depression
Alfred Weigel purchases the property at 138 Annaberger Straße as a branch office to the headquarters on Lutherstraße. This remains our corporate headquarters to this day. Business acumen and a major contract from Bosch AG help steer the company through the Great Depression. His sons, Kurt and Rudolf, join the company.
-

1909: Founded with a Pioneering Spirit
Alfred Weigel, a 35-year-old locksmith and foreman, founded a new company using the assets from the bankruptcy of Riedel, a spring manufacturer in Chemnitz. Within a few years, the company grew to 40 employees.
